Hand hygiene

Washing your hands if one of the most basic things to do to prevent infectious disease. Contaminated hands can lead to us contracting illnesses that cause vomiting and diarrhoea or respiratory diseases like colds, coughs, flu or covid.

Wash your hands

When to wash your hands - if they are dirty!

BEFORE - touching your face, treating a wound, touching food, caring for an unwell person

AFTER - coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose

using the toilet or touching body fluids inc nappies

Touching surfaces in public places

Touching food/ raw meat/ rubbish/ waste

Touching animals or their food or waste

Caring for an unwell person

Going mud sliding at a festival

Hand sanitiser - better than nothing if no soap or water. Does not kill all germs including Norovirus.

Apply in similar technique as if washing hands in soap and water and wait for them to dry. Should take 20-30 seconds.
